In Character Information

character name: Veronica Mars
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Timeline: Season 2 finale
character's age: 18 years old

powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Powers: Veronica does not have any supernatural powers in canon, but she does have the skills of a private investigator. Just for the game, I would like for her to have a limited ability to be able to feel things, like peoples emotions to be able to tell if anyone is lying to her. It should be subtle, nothing huge and she won't realize this for a long time.

Skills:
She's patient, a quality that most people don't have. Surveillance is key to being a private investigator and more often than not, she has to sit through long boring nights and probably not see a thing that has to do with her case. When interviewing someone, she's patient and looks for details others don't seem to notice, like hand movements, eye contact, anything that would tell her that the person is lying or simply avoiding certain conversations.

She has this knack for staying organized and tends to keep a file of anyone involved in her cases. If someone enters her room, she will find out. Everything is put in a specific place, why? Because there was a time when she got a pencil sharpener in her mail, thanking her for donating money to this wild life thing and it turns out they bugged her, listened to her every conversation and found out where she was at all times.

Research and computer skills has gotten her far too. Veronica loves photography, it's her thing. Her Nikon is one of her babies and no one must touch it.

Pets: Veronica has a very large pitbull named, Backup. He's trained to do anything she says.

canon history: this way.

personality:
There are two sides of Veronica Mars; she was a completely different person before her best friend, Lilly Kane, was found dead in the Kane’s estate. She was innocent, naive, and wanted the same things every other girl did in high school. Her boyfriend Duncan Kane was one of the most popular kids in school, part of the 09ers, so she was socially accepted fairly quickly. It’s not just the way she acted; it’s the way she looked that was different too. Her hair was long and straight, her wardrobe full of pastel colors. She was your typical peppy kind of girl influenced by her only best friend. Lilly was daring, made her do things she was too scared to do, but that didn’t matter. Like every girl, she just wanted to be accepted.

When Duncan breaks up with her without even saying anything, Veronica's whole world comes crashing down when her best friend gets killed and her father accuses Jake Kane, Lilly’s dad, as the murderer. As a result her mother starts to drink heavily and leaves her father. This means that the only mother figure she could even talk to about girl things and help deal with her best friends murder, was gone and now she only had her dad to depend on, a guy that was dealing with his own issues, like losing his job as the Sheriff in town. ‘The hero is the one that stays, and the villain is the one that splits.’ Veronica's mother is always a touchy subject. As if losing Lilly Kane wasn’t enough, she lost her home and had to move into some small apartment because her father lost his job. They weren’t rich before, but they slumped down from what they were used to.

Working for ‘Mars Investigations’ has its perks. She’s so good at it, that she even does small cases at Neptune high for some of the students desperate for some help. When asked why she did this sort of thing, she simply says, “Because I’m good at it.” And you know what? She’s right. Along with her small cases at school, she also tries to dig a little deeper in bigger cases like Lilly's murder and her mothers disappearance. Usually this ended with her getting into trouble, but that never stopped her, not even her father who insisted that she'd keep her nose in her own business. She’s the type of person that needs to find out the truth in order to sleep good at night. No case was unsolved if Veronica was involved and usually that meant her friends too. It seems as though Lilly's murder was the one thing that pushed her into that line of work, but I mean having a father as the ex-sheriff in town kind of helped her get into that field anyways. After all, she gets it from her dad.

Veronica isn’t the type to show her feelings, she tends to use that hate and transfer it into her work. It fuels her into finding the truth because she's so emotionally involved in it. She doesn’t like to show people her pain, so instead she keeps her chin up, throws a few sarcastic comments here and there and calls it a day. There was a time when Duncan dumped her and the rumors started, she attended a party to show that she didn’t care – that the rumors didn’t affect her. The day after, when she realized she had been raped, she never even told her father. In some ways, she knew there was nothing he could do to make it better, so she kept it to herself, especially after the new Sheriff laughed in her face. No one would believe her. Proof is the key to everything, she needs to find it and drag it into the light so everyone can see it. When she finds out who her rapist is, she confronts him, tells him to his face all that she knows and holds a gun directed at his head. But she didn't pull the trigger, despite all her hate and disgust, she is not a killer.

Trust is a big issue with Veronica. Because of what she does and what she’s seen, she finds it hard to fully trust someone when she knows she could easily be vulnerable in those situations. A teacher at Neptune High was accused of having sex with a student, the moment Veronica found this out, she made it her job to clear him because for one: he was her absolute favorite teacher. But it turned out she was wrong - he lied to her about his relationship with his female students and she was blind to this until it was nearly too late. The only two people she confides in are Wallace and her father. There was a time where Wallace was accused of taking drugs, he ran to Veronica for help and she did instantly without a second thought. She didn't even have to question him, that was a sign of trust. Her relationship with Logan suffered because of her inability to trust. Logan, the classic rich bad boy in high school. Every school has one of them. He wanted her to trust him, but she was just always focused on trying to find out the truth and honestly that kind of defines her. Veronica uses her tactics to grilling people for info on the people she meets on a daily bases, sometimes she can’t separate work from her social life/relationships. She has the qualities of a private investigator to the fullest, so she tends to be perceived as cold when it comes to that, but once she trusts you, she’s fiercely loyal and will defend you till the end.

Veronica Mars has this weird way of protecting people. When her father gets involved with a school teacher, she does a background check thinking that it was something 'normal'. But when she presents it to her father, he yells at her. She doesn't seem to respect people’s privacy and that's what gets her into trouble. She doesn't realize that it isn't okay to do that, but she does it anyway thinking that it's the only way to survive in her messed up world. But it doesn't hit her until she confronts an ex boyfriend about his past and legal information when she realizes how wrong she is. Even though she knows it’s wrong, her curiosity gets the best of her.

Logan Echolls is the first person that appreciates Veronica's witty and feisty personality. She seems to have a comeback for any insult someone tries to throw her way. It's like she's prepared and barks pretty loud for a tiny blond one. It's a defense mechanism, she had been pushed aside from her friends and faced with ignorant people far too long to not develop that ability to defend herself on instinct. In some ways, this is part of her charm. It's hard being a private investigator and sometimes she runs into really ignorant people and some just are creepy as hell, like Logan's father in the elevator when he confesses to Lilly's murder and described how he killed her so that only she would hear it from him. It was torture, but still she stood strong, unafraid even though her eyes were watery. Veronica has learned to deal with these sort of people through experience. She's very strong and not afraid to stand up to anyone. There's a time when she finds out her mother was Jake Kane's high school sweetheart. The thought of possibly being Jake Kane's daughter terrified her to the point she had to puke. She dated his son, which would have made her Duncan's sister. In the end she still was able to talk to Duncan, even with her suspicions. Her father cleared everything up in her graduation, giving her the DNA results and confirming that the ex-sheriff was her biological father. Just because Veronica Mars tends to have this sarcastic wall preventing others to see the real her, she is genuinely a good person. She believes in justice and always tries to find the truth in things.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?  Veronica has a lot of experience when it comes to tracking down bad guys, but I would love for her to experience something she can't explain - something supernatural and put her on the spot. She has seen some pretty gruesome things and dealt with criminals before and hasn't backed down. I don't have a doubt in my mind that Veronica will be very strong and fiercely loyal to anyone whom she considers a friend here. At first she will be skeptical, being in a place that's not Neptune, but she will get through it on her own.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:
[ There is a blonde staring down at the device as the feed clicks on with a confused look on her face.  ] This is Veronica Mars. I don’t know where I am and since I just so happen to magically have this device, I'm guessing that I'm supposed to communicate this way. Where exactly am I? [ One thin eyebrow raises and she's almost regretting the question instantly.]

Seriously! Am I naked? Because in my nightmares, I'm usually naked and this does seem like a nightmare but incredibly realistic. [ She sighs. ] Look, I need to get back home. I've got a college to go to, cases to finish. I really don't have time for this. [ Lightbulb! ] Logan, this better not be some game you're pulling because if you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Third Person Sample:

Veronica woke to the sound of a heart beating. It was beating fast and hard, frightened, and very loud. She felt automatically for her taser gun. She was never without some sort of protection, yet she found nothing beside her body. The heart pounded even harder and she tasted the coppery flavor of fear in her mouth, these sheets....they felt different. Dragging in a lung-full of air, she forced herself to open her eyes to the inevitable. 'Here we go again' she thought, remembering the day she woke up and realized she was raped. Her eyes scanned the décor, she was definitely not in Neptune. Blue eyes glanced down at the white sheets, watched them slip from her skin. Pulling the sheets up and around her, it was the least she could do to at least cover herself for now, she sits up and glances around, trying to remember how the hell she got there.

"Not again..." Her breathing was hard and fast and it wasn't until she noticed the bag with things and the cupboards full of food, that her heart slammed hard against her small chest. She turns to the side of her bed, toes touching the cool floor while she reached out to grab the bag. "Well, we're not in Kansas anymore." Swallowing, she lifts herself up from the bed and stands perfectly still. And there it was again, that feeling of being terribly afraid of what she might find, but her curiosity pushed her forward, passed her fear. Her eyes focused on the bag and found the cell phone looking device. Who would bring her here and why was she in a room filled with things she might need? This was all too confusing, interesting even. She places the bag on the bed, then starts fiddling with the device. She was placed in this room for a reason and she sure as hell was going to find out. Her father crossed her mind, the thought of him worried about her made her incredibly sad. Then of course Logan, was he taken too? She would have to find out eventually.

Anything else? ...Anything else? :D
